Electronic Security
We know that selection of the right electronic security provider is important. Here are some things to consider before making a purchasing decision:
- Be sure that you own the system after paying installation fee – not just renting long-term.
- Do not pay more than $20 per month for monitoring.
- Avoid signing long-term contracts (over one year) with automatic renewal clause for continuation of terms. Verify the terms and conditions of contract.
- Beware of large mass marketing security companies that offer low installation fees and high monthly “so called monitoring” charges. These companies offer a low installation fee and then charge you a larger monthly charge that does include monitoring as well as covering the cost of installation. These companies know that most clients will continue to have the system monitored for an average of 10 years. The buyer ends up paying thousands of dollars more for the installation than realized over time. In some cases “the equipment remains the property of” the vendor indefinitely.
- Do not purchase a proprietary system that only one provider can service and maintain – should the provider fail to meet your expectations you will want the option of being able to go to another provider without having to reinvest dollars to replace proprietary equipment. Note: even brand name systems have been modified for some of the mass market companies to prevent system from being able to be reprogrammed by another vendor.
